Response to How to Read This Book

While reading the portion from Spreadable Media, “How to Read This Book” the part that stuck out the most to me the most was where it talked about how companies that will thrive are ones that address the consumers’ needs opposed to those who do not. I feel that this is especially true for brands rather than companies. The word brand meaning celebrities/entertainers. In today’s society it is not uncommon that celebrities will have social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in which they not only post their own thoughts but also ask for the thoughts of fans and then even give responses. I think that this really helps build a strong fan base because everyone likes to know that the person that they look up to truly cares about them, what they want, and how they feel. Not only do some celebrities post but also do live chats in which fans are able to feel like they are actually hanging out with the celebrities. From these post and live chats alone we are able to see how much it effects fandoms because each posts receives millions of likes.
Another example of this comes in the form of grocery stores offering online ordering in which consumers don’t have to get out of their cars to get groceries. This targets families specifically but creates a more willing to buy customer who will be loyal because of the convenience it creates for them. This may not seem like it has anything to do with media but it truly does because advertising is found on radios such as Pandora and ordering is done online.
