MIT 603: American Soap Operas

Posted by samford on January 8, 2008

My name is Sam Ford, and I am the Project Manager of the Convergence Culture Consortium at the Program in Comparative Media Studies at MIT, as well as an instructor here.

This spring, I am teaching a course on American soaps here at MIT, and I’m designing this blog to be a centralized location not just for our small class to write about our semester-long discussions about the history, current state, and nature of American soap operas, but also to invite folks from the industry, the fan community, and the academy to join us in this discussion.

The class, which was recently featured in CBS Soaps in Depth and in a nice feature on Soaps.com, started in early February. We are following As the World Turns for the semester, the soap opera I did my Master’s thesis work on here at MIT.We look forward to your participation through comments, and feel free to be in touch directly if you’d like to join our conversation in a more substantial way.

You can e-mail me at samford@mit.edu. You can find the class syllabus here.
