Reappraising the Residual Part 2 (2/21)

One point that was made that I found interesting the system of appraisal. The author talked about a gold coin and that you could take it to a bunch of different shops and get a price or appraisal for it and it would be worth a different amount at every place. At one place this gold could be worth millions to someone, but then turn around and got somewhere else and it is only worth one hundred. It is stated that the same sort of thing happens with media. You can post or announce a product one place and you suddenly have hundreds of people hooked and interested. Then you post that same product somewhere else and everyone either hates the idea or only a few people like it. It is just like what people say when you are starting a new business, it is all about location, location, location. Although in online media there is no physical location, there are locations where you post things. You can post something on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or Snapchat, but all those places you posted the exact same thing can have a different reaction or effect. As I keep getting further along in this book I am learning media in any form is really all about strategy. Where you post something, how you post something, when you post something, and who your audience is you are posting to. Every little last detail and thing matters when you are sharing or spreading media.
