Why Media Spreads

Posted by amycorysite on February 1, 2017

After finishing the second half of the book “Why Media Spreads”, I realized the spread of media is greatly impacted by the consumers opinion on the producers values such as customer service and public relations. The corporate world relies on their customers online presence and opinion by addressing the producers corporate issues. In contrast to the corporate world, the second half of the book expressed the influence fandoms had on the entertainment industry in the media. The show, “Mad Men” gained great success due to great acting and a great deal of tweets. Twitter boosted the hype behind “Mad Men” by creating traction for characters to respond to their fans questions and praises. The producers of “Mad Men” help further please the mainstream media by giving them access to the thoughts and stories behind the actors of the television show. By also establishing “Mad Men” as strictly an AMC television show the producers were able to keep control of the access to the releases of new shows and control of the plot line in the story. The medias ability to endorse globalization of different networks further pushes the ability to provide great customer service and public relation skills at all times. The media has begun to crumble recently due to many political ordeals; as well as, the ever changing entertainment industry. The most important aspect to keep in mind when satisfying anyone is to meet their emotional expectations. The more emotions we have, the more media will continue to spread.

I agree with you when you at that the spread of media is greatly impacted by the consumers opinion. I have seen multiple ads involving companies on twitter, Instagram, snapchat, facebook, etc, and many people respond to that and like that. We are a very technology based society and since we lack communication skills, we tend to voice our opinions by hiding through a screen.

I like your quote at the end “The more emotions we have, the more media will continue to spread.” I couldn’t agree more. Media is passionate and we create it.
