Reflection on the Introduction

Posted by emilychildress329 on January 25, 2017

As many of us know, media plays a crucial role on how we live our day to day lives. No matter where we are or what we are doing, we are usually always scrolling through our many social media pages looking at certain things that interest us. After reading the assigned pages out of Spreadable Media, however, I had no idea that social media is not just something we enjoy to look at, but it is also something that we cannot get away from.

This certain type of media gets more information out than any other type. Within a matter of minutes one article can spread to thousands across the country. For many people, for example, this is how we are able to get our news spread. Personally I do not like watching the news channels on tv, but I can get on my phone and know exactly what the news is talking about, now even live.

Media is not just something to have, its a necessity. We need this spreadable media to be able to get and give out information faster and more effectively. This media is not just changing in this generation, but it will continue to change throughout many generations to come.

I like your emphasis on how crucial media has become in our generation. This has made it so easy for everyone to share news at any given moment. This is also crazy because it’s so easily exploited and any post, news or topics can be made spreadable at any given moment.

I agree completely on reading your social media for news, rather than watching it on television. I almost think you can get your news even faster from your phone! It has made a huge impact on today’s generation.

Your statement that media is not just something to have, but a necessity at this point, is completely accurate. If anyone had any doubts or reservations about modern media having a long-lasting and enduring impact on our lives, then they have certainly been shown by now that it is not going anywhere. As you said, it will not only continue to change and shape the current generation, but it will impact every single generation that follows us. This is not a new trend, as media has influenced every generation to some degree, but this generation has been radically impacted by our media environment.
