From Weird to Wide

The question of why some people are rich and some people are poor deserves a complex answer. Speaking monetarily, some people are rich because they have worked extremely hard and some are rich out of pure luck (like michael cera, seriously, how did he ever get casting directors to cast him in movies). Some people are poor because they see no value in work and some were just born into unfortunate circumstances. However, people can be rich in money but poor in happiness and vice versa.

Depending on what part of the world you are from can impact your monetary wealth. As the article mentioned sub-Saharan Africa is full of intelligence, creativity, and humor. All of the diversity from different countries makes the world so rich in culture. Cultural expression enriches the minds of everyone who comes from a different place. As the internet spreads, so does cultural media. Memes really do represent a culture because they often address certain fads and issues going on in that society, typically by mocking them. As memes become more popular people from all over the world can see how people of different cultures handle problems in their society and how they view different things.

p.s–Is anyone else really entertained by the seeds flying off the dandelion when you scroll down?

First off, I do find the dandelion entertaining. It makes me feel better while reading these um wonderful articles. On a more serious note, I think it is odd how some people are very well off while others live in poverty. It is crazy how money is distributed and affects many aspects in which a person lives. There is the cliche phrase that money doesn’t buy happiness, but it sure does place hardships on those who lack money.

Your whole point about the difference between rich and poor being so complex is so true. Some people are born into unfortunate situations and remain poor or in poverty for most of their lives, while some rich people are also born into their situations. On the other hand, there are those folks whose financial situation is a direct result of their actions–they become wealthy from their hard work or stay poor by not doing anything. And, like you said, some people choose to view having a lot of money as a completely separate thing than being rich–they count their wealth in other ways. It’s a complicated system and I don’t think there’s any one factor that contributes to it. I think it’s just a combination of upbringing, circumstances, and personal beliefs that make it what it is.
