How Much has Youtube Revolutionized Our Generation

Posted by samanthadeering349 on February 13, 2013

I cannot imagine not using Youtube. It would be the most inconvenient thing ever. Our generation is very spoiled when it comes to Youtube. AS mentioned in our reading, we even use it for educational viewing. Youtube is used for a variety of things. The reason Youtube was created was for vloggers and for people to post videos that they made themselves. I do not know about anyone else’s high school, but we used Youtube in almost every class for “How To’s” or DIY projects.

I also use Youtube for music purposes and humor. I cannot imagine not being able to look up a video I have not seen yet. We would have to watch MTV and wait for it , and we all know MTV is not necessarily “Music” television anymore. Our generation is technologically spoiled. We could not do anything without Youtube. Our generation literally “looks up” everything on Youtube. It’s not only addicting, but also contains a lot of information.

I totally agree how our generation is spoiled due to YouTube. Anything can be viewed at the drop of a hat. An example I can think of most recently is Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance. If someone didn’t care to watch the game or missed it for any given reason, they could YouTube it literally ten minutes after the performance. It has been about two weeks since the Super Bowl and the her performance has already received nearly three million hits. We can also view the commercials that aired during the game. Anything is at our disposal on YouTube.

One of the reasons YouTube has become so popular is because it has allowed its users to access it for a wide range of purposes, without too closely limiting what it is supposed to be. (The caveat to this, of course, is when YouTube’s commercial interests and pressures come into conflict with its users’ interests.) But it does show you how good the audience can be at filling in availability for a range of content not yet commercially available, or which doesn’t have a market. When it comes to old pro wrestling matches or old soap opera episodes not available on DVD, YouTube often has what I’m looking for, and usually it’s been uploaded by fellow fans and not by the producer themselves. Copyright infringement? Perhaps. But most of this isn’t even commercially available…

I appreciate YouTube for the convenience that it has added to my life for sure. As 90210code said if you are not willing or able to watch an event, it is almost always certain that YouTube will have several condensed and sometimes commercial free ways to look at it later. I find myself using it daily to listen to old songs I don’t have on my iPod or iPhone and also to just take breaks from the stress of a hectic day. YouTube is also particularly helpful to me in my major, as a graphic designer there are many videos out there about creating certain techniques in the Adobe suite of programs. Obviously our professors teach us many of the basics but for more advanced learning YouTube is a valuable resource!

  4. YouTube has made the idea of tuning to channels at a certain time seem like an absurd relic of the past. We can watch shows and films on demand – some of it legally, with micropayments – and I look forward to seeing how it will affect popular culture in the future.
